(Re)Cycling
DV6mm/Color/3m/Sound/2008
The memory of a midnight summer in Korea, recorded through the eye of the video camera, is edited and re-played in the Netherlands. While the memory and recollection rotate, the light and the shadow of the special moment are (re)cycled.
The images from the left run to the right and the images from the right run to the left. Therefore, when audiences see the beginning from the left side and the end from the right side, and see the end from the left side and the beginning from the right side. Like this, one memory circulates endlessely and one piece of recycled memory again consists recycled present.
카메라가 보았던 한국에서의 한 여름 밤의 기억이 네덜란드에서 편집되어 다시 재생된다. 기억과 회상이 마주 돌며 특별했던 그 순간의 빛과 그림자가 순환한다.
Light and Shadow
Like memories of what cannot be
Within the reign of memory...
That shake our mortal frames to dust.
Shelley
On every thought I have the countless shadows fall
Of other thoughts as valid that I cannot have
Cross-light of errors, too, impossible to me,
Yet somehow truer than all these thoughts, being with more
power aglow
May I never lose these shadowy glimpses of unknown thoughts
That modify and minify my own, and never fail
To keep some shining sense of the way all thoughts at last
Before life's dawning meaning like the stars at sunrise pale.
